API 2010 Scores Still Stand High in PVP, South Shores, South Bay and Wiseburn School Districts!!
The 2010 Accountability Performance Index (API) is the cornerstone of California's Public Schools Accountability Act of 1999. API measures the academic performance and growth of schools on a variety of academic measures. It is used on the state and federal levels of government as an assessment tool. The base test will be compared to recent testing to guage where students are performing well, and where improvements are needed.
The PVPUSD (Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District) continues to be one of the best school districts in the state of California and the nation. In addition, we are also proud to mention the great scores achieved by South Shores Magnet Elementary and 5 other San Pedro Elementary and Middle schools, the Torrance Unified School District, as well as Wiseburn Unified School District covering the communities of Holly Glen/Del Aire in West Hawthorne.
Bearing in mind that the state-mendated target is 800 Points (1,000 bing the highest), our schools enjoyed the following scores:
PALOS VERDES PENINSULA: Silver Spur Elementary - 974 Montemalaga Elementary - 967 Cornerstone at Pedregal Elem. - 967 Point Vicente Elementary - 953 Vista Grande Elementary - 952 Rancho Vista Elementary - 941 Dapplegray Elementary - 940 Soleado Elementary - 936 Lunada Bay Elementary - 926 Mira Catalina Elementary - 920
Palos Verdes Intermediate - 959 Ridgecrest Intermediate - 940 Miraleste Intermediate - 903
Peninsula High - 893 Palos Verdes High - 850
SOUTH SHORES/SAN PEDRO: Park Western Place Elem. - 949 South Shores Magnet Elem. - 878 Taper Avenue Elem. - 876 White Point Elem. - 857 Point Fermin Elem. - 838 Crestwood St. Elem. - 818 Leland St. Elem. - 789 Bandini St. Elem. - 788 Fifteenth St. Elem. - 769 Barton Hill Elem. - 766 Cabrillo Ave. Elem. - 762

South Bay API Scores Show Improvement!!
More than 50% of schools across the South Bay meet the state-set goal on a widely anticipated measure - compared to just less than half across California. The South Bay's relatively good standing was no doubt bolstered by SB's perennial top performer, the Manhattan Beach Unified Schoold District. The affluent district posted the 3rd highest score - 926 - of all K-12 districts across California, up from fifth place last year. Manhattan Beach is behind San Marino (949) and La Canada (933) which are 1st and 2nd highest scoring unified school districts.
Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified District is the 2nd highest in the South Bay with a score of 912.
In California, the most widely watched score tends to be the state measure, known as the Academic Performance Index. The API assigns every school in the state a score between 200 and 1,000 based on students' performance on standardized tests taken in the spring. The goal is for every school to eventually score an 800 or better.
Palos Verdes Peninsula has the 10th highest API score among K-12 districts in California. The highest-performing school in the SB - which is also part of PVPUSD - is Silver Spur Elementary, which scored 974.
The lowest performing is part of Los Angeles Unified School District: Gardena High, which scored 586.
Although the high-achieving Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District saw gains at most schools, Palos Verdes High saw a surprising 17 point drop to 848. That puts the PVE campus significantly behind its rival Peninsula High, which gained 6 points for an API of 891.
In San Pedro, Dodson Middle School gained 26 points to score an API of 825.
Thank you teachers, principals, parents and pro-active family members and friends for your continued hard work, exuberance, motivation, support and good will to achieve success towards all students!!
